Miren Ortubay

Doctor of Law from the University of Deusto (Bilbao), where she also obtained a degree in Law, and a Diploma in Criminology from the U. Complutense Madrid. Until 2019, Professor of Criminal Law at the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU), with teaching at the Faculty of Law and at the Faculty of Social Work.

After starting her professional career with the free practice of law, she was Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Deusto and, for more than ten years, Legal Adviser of the Ararteko (Ombudsman of the Basque Country), where she held the direction of the Justice and Equality areas for women and men.

Her main areas of research are: Labor criminal law; Execution of penal sanctions and penitentiary law; and Women and Criminal Law. She has written several publications, among which several are about gender violence.

Luisa Etxenike is a writer born in San Sebastian. She has published, among others: the novels Aves del paraíso, Absoluta presencia, El detective de sonidos, El ángulo ciego (Euskadi Award), Los peces negros, Vino; and the plays La herencia (Buero Vallejo Award), Gernika es ahora and La entrevista; and the poetry collection El arte de la pesca. She is the director of Canal Europa and she runs the literary festival Un mundo de Escritoras. She was awarded the distinction of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government.
