Pascal Dusapin
Composer
1955, Nancy (France). He received classes from Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatory and subsequently completed his training with Iannis Xenakis (between 1974 and 1978) and, finally, with Franco Donatoni. Opposed to the musical movement of Spectralism, he has defended the “artisan” component of the composer’s trade. He has composed numerous works for all genres: for solo instrument, chamber music, vocal music, orchestral and operas. After winning the Prix de Rome, he resided in Italy between 1981 and 1983, retiring at the Villa Medici, headquarters of the French Academy in Rome. Between 1993 and 1994 he was “composer in residence” for the Lyon National Symphony Orchestra. In 2003, his opera Perelà Uomo di fumo was premiered at the Bastille Opera in Paris, with which he obtained an important success, and in 2006 he premiered another opera, Faustus, the Last Night, the result of a joint commission by the Lyon Opera. and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. He has received important distinctions, among others: Grand Prix National de Musique from the Ministry of Culture in 1995; in 1998 he won the Victoire de la Musique for a recording by the Lyon National Orchestra; in 2002 he received the same recognition as “composer of the year” and in 2005 he won the Cino del Duca Prize.
