Isabel Sola
Biologist and Coronavirus specialist
San Adrián, Navarra, 1967. She studied Biology at the University of Navarra and obtained the extraordinary degree award. She received a doctorate in Molecular Biology from the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid with a doctoral thesis on protection against Coronavirus infections through recombinant monoclonal antibodies, which received the award from the Royal Academy of Doctors for the best thesis in animal health. Since then, she has studied the biology of coronaviruses for more than 25 years with the aim of applying this basic knowledge to the development of protection strategies against the virus. She has published 70 articles in international scientific journals, has participated in 40 research projects, has presented more than 130 communications at conferences, has directed 9 doctoral theses and is co-inventor of 4 patents. She is currently co-director, together with Dr. Luis Enjuanes, of the Coronavirus laboratory of the National Center for Biotechnology, CNB-CSIC, in which they study the mechanisms of pathogenicity of the SARS-CoV-2 virus with the aim of developing vaccines and identify antivirals. Recently, Isabel Sola has received the Hipatia Award from el Economista for scientific career, the SER Navarra-Cinfa Research Award and the 8M Community of Madrid Award for the “Fight against Covid-19”.

Inés Juaristi Santos es Dra. en Biociencias Moleculares por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, realizó la tesis doctoral bajo la dirección de la Profesora Jorgina Satrústegui en el Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa de Madrid en relación a la regulación del metabolismo neuronal. Actualmente es investigadora en el mismo centro de investigación y su trabajo está centrado en el estudio de enfermedades metabólicas raras. Además, está interesada en la enseñanza de las ciencias en la educación secundaria.
